Untold story of Women Resistance Fighters in Hitler\u00b4s Ghettos<\/strong>„, to commemorate the 80th<\/sup> anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising<\/strong><\/p>\n

Judy Batalion is a Canadian-American writer of Jewish descent and granddaughter of Polish Holocaust survivors. Her book „The Light of Days\u201d on the participation of Jewish women in the resistance movement on the occupied Polish territory during World War II was published in 2021. It became a\u00a0 New York Times bestseller and received both the National Jewish Book Award and the Canadian Jewish Literary Award. It has been translated into more than 40 languages, including French („Les R\u00e9sistants”) and Dutch („Dochters van het Dagliht”). This is the first in-person meeting with Judy Batalion in Belgium.<\/p>\n

Conversation with the author will be moderated by Maria Makarova – Senior Education Specialist of the Warsaw Ghetto Museum. She will talk about the Warsaw Ghetto and illustrate her speech with unique documents from the Museum’s collection. The Warsaw Ghetto was the largest ghetto created by the Nazis during World War II. Between its creation in autumn 1940 until its total destruction by the German after the heroic uprising of the Ghetto’s Jewish population in spring 1943, more than 400,000 Jewish Varsovians were confined in its perimeter. The April Uprising (19.04 – 16.05 1943) was the armed uprising by Jews during World War II, and the first urban uprising in occupied Europe.<\/p>\n
