Co-author, together with Agnieszka Holland, of the screenplay of the film Europa, Europa<\/em> (nominated for an Oscar in 1992), he is also the author of numerous acclaimed films, including Culture Monthly<\/em> (about the Maisons-Laffitte Institute), KOR<\/em>, Czapski<\/em>, \u00c9missaires<\/em> (on Jan Karski and Jan Nowak-Jeziora\u0144ski), Moi, Gombrowicz<\/em> and Jan Lebenstein<\/em>, the latter awarded the Silver Lajkonik and several major international prizes.\u200b<\/p>\n

Conceived at the initiative of Rita Gombrowicz, widow of the eminent Polish novelist and playwright Witold Gombrowicz (1904\u20131969), this \u201cdream biography\u201d applies the principles of the provocative and taboo\u2011free literature of the author of\u00a0Ferdydurke<\/em>,\u00a0Pornography<\/em>,\u00a0Cosmos<\/em>, and\u00a0Bakakai<\/em>. A major figure in international literature, admired by his peers, he is often credited with a decisive influence on the revival of the absurd in times frozen by war. After his death, the young Rita devoted herself entirely to preserving his memory and perpetuating his work. Along the way, she began to dream of a \u201ccomic\u2011book Witold,\u201d a model of the Eastern European writer confronted with revolutions and communism, condemned to exile, moving from opulence to poverty and experiencing profound solitude.<\/p>\n

It took six decades before Andrzej Wolski <\/strong>and Jacek Wo\u017aniak<\/strong>\u2014his compatriots and spiritual heirs\u2014finally gave form to this dream. \u201cIf you manage to laugh at yourself,\u201d he wrote, \u201cto amuse yourself and rejoice in yourself, even when you are in the worst trouble, you are saved.\u201d

Co-author, together with Agnieszka Holland, of the screenplay of the film Europa, Europa (nominated for an Oscar in 1992), he is also the author of numerous acclaimed films, including Culture Monthly (about the Maisons-Laffitte Institute), KOR, Czapski, \u00c9missaires (on Jan Karski and Jan Nowak-Jeziora\u0144ski), Moi, Gombrowicz and Jan Lebenstein, the latter awarded the Silver Lajkonik and several major international prizes.\u200b\n\u00a0\n\u00a0\n\u00a0\nllustrator, painter and caricaturist, a native of Krak\u00f3w, Jacek Wo\u017aniak embodies the legacy of exemplary resistance. Expelled from the Academy of Fine Arts for dissidence under communism, founder of the first independent satirical newspaper in Poland and an active supporter of Solidarno\u015b\u0107 trade movement, which led to his arrest in 1981, he went into exile in Paris in 1982. A key contributor to Le Canard encha\u00een\u00e9 since 1987, he covers cinema and politics, while also designing books, posters for the Council of Europe, album covers for Manu Chao and Archie Shepp, and visuals for the Philharmonie de Paris. Deno\u00ebl Graphic\nConceived at the initiative of Rita Gombrowicz, widow of the eminent Polish novelist and playwright Witold Gombrowicz (1904\u20131969), this \u201cdream biography\u201d applies the principles of the provocative and taboo\u2011free literature of the author of\u00a0Ferdydurke,\u00a0Pornography,\u00a0Cosmos, and\u00a0Bakakai. A major figure in international literature, admired by his peers, he is often credited with a decisive influence on the revival of the absurd in times frozen by war. After his death, the young Rita devoted herself entirely to preserving his memory and perpetuating his work.
