The film Palace for the People<\/strong><\/a> tells the stories of the four most iconic buildings of the socialist era. Screening in the presence of Micha\u0142 Murawski<\/strong><\/a>, an anthropologist of architecture. He is Lecturer<\/strong> (Assistant Professor) in Critical Area Studies at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies, University College London<\/strong>, and a Leverhulme Trust Early Career Research Fellow. He received his PhD from the University of Cambridge in 2014.<\/p>\n

He is author of „Palace Complex”<\/strong><\/a>, a dissertation about the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw<\/strong><\/a>, a vast Stalin-era skyscraper 'gifted’ to Poland by the Soviet Union in 1955.
\u201cThe Palace Complex\u201d<\/strong> published by Indiana University Press in January 2019 explores the many factors that allow Warsaw’s Palace to endure as a still-socialist building in a post-socialist city.<\/p>\n

The film allows us to discover the National Palace of Culture in Sofia, Moscow State University, the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest and the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade<\/strong> the film bears witness to the historical turbulence that marked Eastern Europe in the second half of the 20th century. These four buildings appear as unique architectural „creatures”, destined to remind the people that they held the ultimate power that would guarantee them a better future.
