The winner of the first prize in the new\u00a0International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments<\/a>\u00a0in now know: 23-year-old Polish pianist\u00a0Tomasz RITTER<\/strong>. He\u00a0will play in front of the Belgian audience with a programme that is\u00a0100% Chopin\u00a0<\/strong>at the\u00a0Centre for Fine Arts BOZAR<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong>on\u00a018 November<\/strong>.\u00a0

<\/strong>Playing music on historical instruments is very much in vogue these days, especially in Belgium. By recreating the original sound and mechanics of XIXth century pianos, instruments used by the composer, playing Chopin’s music on historical instruments allows musicians to tap into what makes his work so unique, as well as his unique articulations and sense of harmony, which are, to a great extent, lost when played on contemporary instruments.
Thirty pianists from 9 different countries participated in the competition. The second prize resulted in a tie for Japanese pianist Naruhiko KAWAGUCHI and the Polish Aleksandra \u015aWIGUT. The next places were for the Pole Krzysztof KSI\u0104\u017bEK, Dmitri ABLOGUINE from Russia and the French Antoine DE GROLEE.
The competition, the first edition of which was held in Warsaw by the\u00a0National Fryderyk Chopin Institute<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a02 until 14 September<\/strong>\u00a02018, is the descendant of the Internation Chopin Piano Competition founded in Warsaw in 1927.<\/p>\n

From\u00a04 until 6 March 2018<\/strong>, the Polish Institute in Brussels, in collaboration with the\u00a0Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles<\/a>, the\u00a0Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Fryderyk Chopin Institute in Warsaw<\/a>, co-organized\u00a0a preparatory workshop devoted to the music of Chopin and his period<\/strong>, made up of recitals and workshops and conferences.<\/p>\n
