The aim of the\u00a0<\/span>Brussels Film Festival<\/strong>\u00a0is to honour European cinema with\u00a0<\/span>indoor and outdoor screenings.\u00a0<\/span>Also this year, there will be special attention for Polish cinema during the\u00a0POLISH EVENING<\/strong>\u00a0in the presence of the actor\u00a0Janusz CHABIOR<\/strong>. This Polish evening will be organised on Sunday 19 June in Flagey.\u00a0Two movies will be screened:\u00a0<\/span>Life Must Go On<\/em><\/a>, by\u00a0Maciej MIGAS<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>The Lure<\/em><\/a>, by\u00a0<\/span>Agnieszka SMOCZY\u0143SKA<\/strong>.

Life Must Go On<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>(Poland, 2016, 100 min), by\u00a0Maciej MIGAS<\/a>
Bartek, alcoholic and debonair actor, is diagnosed with incurable cancer. What to do during the three months he has left to live? Reconcile with his family? Suicide? Or re-edit his life by trying to fix the past and what is left to live. Inspired by a true story, the film immediately causes a strong empathy for the main character. It follows the last days of his life when quirky humor often gets the upper hand on the drama. The strength of the theme and its originality makes this film both dramatic and hilarious. Tomasz Kot brilliantly fills the screen again after his memorable role in Gods.

The Lure<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>(Poland, 2016, 92 min), by\u00a0Agnieszka SMOCZYNSKA<\/a>
In this movie everything is a little crazy and daring. So if you are fond of surprising discoveries, do not miss it. It\u2019s dark, fog envelops the bank of a river while musicians from a bar, drink and sing recklessly. The camera moves to the surface of the water where it is expected to arise the body of a drowned body. But instead two mermaids emerge from the Vistula and sing: „Catch us, we will not eat you.” The sentence will show later to be premonitary. Agnieszka Smoczynska, who presented the film at Sundance, is not content to revisit the myth of mermaids, but transforms it into a musical thriller with style. At times kitschy, sometimes disturbing, the film never ceases to surprise the viewer by its characters, its sets and changes of tones. It is not every day you can get to see a film with mermaids singing in dubious nightclubs, a truly original work which will appeal anyone.
