Janusz Korczak prize<\/strong>
The Janusz Korczakprijs is organised by the\u00a0<\/span>Janusz Korczak Vlaanderen vzw<\/a>\u00a0and the Polish Institute and goes to a project promoting equal chances for children and youth. This year the prize is\u00a0<\/span>1.000 euro<\/strong>.<\/span>

Janusz Korczak<\/strong>\u00a0was a polish pedagogue, doctor and writer of jewish origin. In 1912 he erected an orphanage in Warsaw for jewish children. He died tragically in the nazi concentration camp Treblinka. He is internationally regarded as the\u00a0<\/span>founder of the childrens’ rights movement<\/strong>\u00a0striving for equal rights for children and adults. His philosophy is known worldwide. In Flanders his ideas are spread by the\u00a0<\/span>Janusz Korczak Vlaanderen vzw<\/strong>. In 2012, the Polish parliament declared the year 2012 as the\u00a0<\/span>Janusz Korczak Year<\/strong>\u00a0in Poland.<\/span>

During the Janusz Korczak Year the Janusz Korczak Vlaanderen vzw and the Polish Institute organised the first Janusz Korczak prize to reward an organisation who puts the ideas of Korczak into practice. A jury of children and specialists on childrens’ rights awarded the prize to\u00a0<\/span>Opre Roma<\/a>.
