Zygmunt MI\u0141OSZEWSKI<\/a>\u00a0(o<\/sup>1976) is an undisputed master in the art of the detective story. \u00a0His books, celebrated by readers and critics alike, pushed past the borders of Poland long ago: they have been translated into nine languages, including French, and have been adapted for the screen several times. In 2015,\u00a0Ziarno Prawdy<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>(A Grain of Truth), directed by\u00a0Borys LANKOSZ<\/a>, was released in Polish cinemas. The film was a huge success in Poland.\u00a0
This is the film that will be screened at\u00a0Wolubilis<\/strong>,\u00a0free of charge<\/strong>, on\u00a011 April<\/strong>\u00a02016\u00a0(in Polish, with English subtitles)<\/span>\u00a0in the presence of the writer and director<\/strong>. The screening will be preceded by a discussion led by\u00a0Gra\u017cyna PLEBANEK<\/a>\u00a0(in English) on the themes of the films and the social issues raised in the books of Zygmunt Mi\u0142oszewski.
Zygmunt MI\u0141OSZEWSKI will also be present at the bookshop\u00a0Cook & Book<\/strong>\u00a0– opposite Wolubilis \u2013 for a signing session which will be held on\u00a011 April 2016 from 18:30 until 19:30<\/strong>.

This event is a collaboration between the\u00a0Polish Institute in Brussels<\/a>\u00a0and East Poland House (Dom Polski Wschodniej<\/a>), the representation of the six eastern Polish regions to the European Union.<\/em><\/p>\n

Prosecutor Teodor Szacki has got divorced and left Warsaw for the picturesque town of Sandomierz, in the south-east of Poland. He is quickly called on to take part in an enquiry into a strange and mysterious murder case. Plunged into the reality of the provincial town, he tries to intercept the killer whose victims are piling up. \u00a0He realises that all of the dead are linked to an old story involving Jewish ritual killings. These murders create a wave of anti-Semitic hysteria in the small town. Added to the enquiry is the tension between Poles and Jews. The detective must do battle with legends and untangle truth from falsehood, pure fiction from a grain of truth…

Zygmunt MI\u0141OSZEWSKI<\/strong>\u00a0was born in Warsaw on 8 May 1976. He was a novelist and a screenwriter for the cinema and television. He is particularly well-known for his detective stories starring prosecutor Teodor Szacki. A trained journalist, he spent hours in courts when he was working for the newspaper\u00a0Super Express<\/em>. After some times spent working in publishing, \u00a0he now works for the weekly\u00a0Newsweek<\/em>, for which he is a regular contributor. His areas of interest include, in particular, video games, of which he is a big fan.\u00a0
His books have been published by W.A.B. His works include\u00a0Domofon<\/em>\u00a0(2005),\u00a0G\u00f3ry \u017bmijowe<\/em>\u00a0(2006), the trilogy starring prosecutor Szacki,\u00a0Uwik\u0142anie<\/em>\u00a0(2007),\u00a0Ziarno prawdy<\/em>\u00a0(2011) and Gniew (2014), as well as the bestseller\u00a0Bezcenny<\/em>\u00a0(2013).
Uwik\u0142anie<\/em>\u00a0was translated into French by Antonia LLOYD-JONES and was intitled\u00a0Entanglement<\/em>, and\u00a0Ziarno prawdy<\/em>\u00a0was published as\u00a0A grain of truth<\/em>\u00a0by the same translator. Both novels were published by Bitter Lemon Press, in 2010 and 2012 respectively.<\/p>\n

In Poland, it\u2019s easy to lose count of the number of literary prizes which he has received. Moreover, in 2015, he won the European Book Prize for his novel\u00a0Ziarno prawdy<\/em>, of which the film adaptation will be screened at\u00a0Wolubilis<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a011 April<\/strong>\u00a02016.

Borys LANKOSZ<\/strong>\u00a0is a graduate of the \u0141\u00f3d\u017a National Film School. The film he made at the end of his studies, a documentary intitled\u00a0Rozw\u00f3j<\/em>\u00a0(Evolution) won the 45th edition of the San Francisco International Film Festival and picked up several prizes in Poland and abroad. He has made several documentaries, including\u00a0Radegast<\/em>, which looks at the story of Jews from western Europe who were sent to the \u0141\u00f3d\u017a ghetto in 1941, and he has won several international competitions. His first feature-length fictional film\u00a0Rewers<\/em>\u00a0(in English: Reverse), won new fewer than 11 grand prizes at festivals. It was shown in Belgium at the 2010 edition of the\u00a0Brussels Film Festival<\/a>.\u00a0Ziarno Prawdy<\/em>\u00a0(A Grain of Truth) is his second feature-length film, written in collaboration with Zygmunt Mi\u0142oszewski.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
