By delving into the intrigue of \u2018Powder Her Face\u2019, itself inspired by a sexual scandal in the 1960\u2019s and the female incarnation of Don Juan, this evening will allow the audience to discover what inspires the Polish director, amongst other things.&#8221;<br style=\"line-height: 19.2px\" \/>Guests:\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Mariusz TRELI\u0143SKI<\/strong>, B\u00e9atrice DELVAUX (journalist for Le Soir), Laurent DE SUTTER (philosopher, writer, professor at the VUB), B\u00e9a ERCOLLINI (director of Elle Belgium),\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Agnieszka GRAFF<\/strong>\u00a0(essayist, feminist writer and militant for human rights) and Isabelle TILMANT (psychologist, psychotherapist).<br style=\"line-height: 19.2px\" \/>The evening provided those present with the opportunity to reflect on issues in society linked to the female condition, feminism and female infidelity. Along with the discussions, extracts from major films and operas by Mariusz Treli\u0144ski will be screened. Treli\u0144ski will also be talking about the things he has read and the people he has encountered that have left a lasting impression on him.<hr style=\"line-height: 19.2px\" \/>\n<p style=\"font-size: 12px;line-height: 19.2px\"><a style=\"color: #bdc0c2;line-height: 19.2px;cursor: pointer\" name=\"MT\"><\/a><br style=\"line-height: 19.2px\" \/>Born in 1962 in Warsaw,\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Mariusz TRELI\u0143SKI\u00a0<\/strong>studied film at \u0141\u00f3d\u017a Film School (<a style=\"color: #bdc0c2;line-height: 19.2px;cursor: pointer\" href=\"http:\/\/www.filmschool.lodz.pl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PWSFTViT<\/a>). His first film, Zad wielkiego wieloryba, which was commissioned for television, came out in 1987. His next film was an instant success. Its title was\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\"><em style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Po\u017cegnanie Jesieni<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>(<em style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Farewell to Autumn<\/em>, the second novel by\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Stanis\u0142aw Ignacy Witkiewicz<\/strong>, also known as Witkacy, which was published in Poland in 1927). The film was presented at the\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Venice International Film Festival<\/strong>\u00a0and received the\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">prize from the Chairman of the Cinematographic Committee for a first film<\/strong>. In Poland, he was presented with the best\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">debut award from the Ministry of Culture<\/strong>, as well as the\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Andrzej Munk prize<\/strong>.\u00a0<em style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">\u0141agodna<\/em>, his second film for cinema, this time adapted from a work by Dostoyevsky, won him broad national acclaim.<em style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Egoi\u015bci,<\/em>\u00a0released in 2000, is his latest film to date.<br style=\"line-height: 19.2px\" \/>The director of music clips and advertisements, he has also worked for the theatre since 1993, and for the opera since 1995. Four years later, he began working with the set designer<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Boris Kudli\u010dka<\/strong>, a collaboration which continues and the fruits of which can be seen in<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\"><em style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Manon Lescaut<\/em><\/strong>. His production of\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\"><em style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Kr\u00f3l Roger<\/em>\u00a0<\/strong>in 2000 earned him the\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Karol Szymanowski prize<\/strong>\u00a0the same year (the opera was presented in concert in Brussels in September 2011 &gt; see our\u00a0<a style=\"color: #bdc0c2;line-height: 19.2px;cursor: pointer\" href=\"http:\/\/culturepolonaise.eu\/3,4,324,en,Karol_Szymanowski_Krol_Roger?y=2011\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">archives<\/a>). He reprised this opera, in a new version, in 2006 at Wroc\u0142aw opera. Profoundly inspired by\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Giacomo Puccini<\/strong>, Treli\u0144ski directed\u00a0<em style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Madame Butterfly<\/em>\u00a0in Warsaw in 1999. The critical success was such that\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Pl\u00e1cido Domingo<\/strong>\u00a0invited him to reprise the production in 2001 at the\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Washington National Opera<\/strong>\u00a0(at the Kennedy Center), and then again in 2006: on this occasion, the orchestra was led by the maestro himself. In 2001, Treli\u0144ski received the\u00a0<strong style=\"line-height: 19.2px\">Paszport Polityki prize<\/strong>\u00a0for his operatic productions. He reprised this opera, in a new version, in 2006 at Wroc\u0142aw opera. Profoundly inspired by\u00a0Giacomo Puccini, Treli\u0144ski directed\u00a0Madame Butterfly\u00a0in Warsaw in 1999. The critical success was such that\u00a0Pl\u00e1cido Domingo\u00a0invited him to reprise the production in 2001 at the\u00a0Washington National Opera\u00a0(at the Kennedy Center), and then again in 2006: on this occasion, the orchestra was led by the maestro himself.
