From<\/span>\u00a04 to 11 February 1945<\/strong>, when the Second World War was still raging in Europe and Asia, Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin met at the seaside resort of\u00a0<\/span>YALTA<\/strong>, in Crimea, to prepare for the world after the war. The fates of both Germany and Poland were of course the focal point of this new inter-allied conference, a conference to which France was not invited. The decisions that the three Great Powers took there\u00a0 proved crucial for the future of Europe: the Allies agreed notably on the dividing up of Germany and Berlin into four occupied zones and the setting up of a new international organisation of united nations (the UN). Above all, the USSR’s borders were adjusted at the expense of Poland, Germany and Japan and a Polish government was established based on the (Communist) committee in Lublin and not the (legitimate) government in London.\u00a0
