For this edition, Triennial Bruges has chosen a surprising theme: TraumA. During this edition, we will be looking for the hidden and balancing between dream and reality, private and public. Together, we will go in search of the less visible side of picture perfect Bruges.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Joanna Malinowska (\u00b0 1972, Gdynia \u2013 Poland, lives and works in New York, US) Joanna Malinowska\u2019s sculptures, installations and films function at the intersection of anthropology and art history. By highlighting the similarities between ostensibly different cultures, she seeks to build a bridge between them rather than regard them as separate entities. Her work also explores the idea of collective consciousness\u2014when similar ideas arise in different parts of the world without any direct interaction or influence. In many of her works there is a recognisable cultural heritage motif, seasoned with a pinch of politics. For the Bruges Triennial, Joanna Malinowska proposes to focus attention on a forgotten monument from her birthplace, Gdynia.
