A studiat la Academia de Arte Frumoase din Cracovia (1934-1939). \u00cen timpul ocupa\u021biei germane a fondat Teatrul Independent Clandestin, unde a pus \u00een scen\u0103, cu caracter conspirativ,\u00a0<em>Balladyna<\/em>, dup\u0103 Juliusz S\u0142owacki (1943) \u0219i\u00a0<em>\u00centoarcerea lui Ulise<\/em>, dup\u0103 Stanis\u0142aw Wyspia\u0144ski (1944). A fost cofondator al Grupului Tinerilor Arti\u0219ti Plastici \u0219i primei Expozi\u021bii de Art\u0103 Modern\u0103 (1948). \u00cencep\u00e2nd cu anii\u201950 a colaborat cu teatre profesioniste ca scenograf. \u00cen perioada 1950-1954 s-a retras din circuitul oficial, \u00een semn de protest fa\u021b\u0103 de doctrina realismului socialist. \u00cen 1955 a \u00eenfiin\u021bat Teatrul Cricot 2, iar \u00een 1957 a reactivat Gruparea Cracovian\u0103.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u00cen Teatrul Cricot 2 a creat un laborator dramatic, trec\u00e2nd de la Teatrul Autonom (<em>Sepia<\/em>, 1956) prin Teatrul\u00a0<em>Informel<\/em>\u00a0(<em>\u00cen micul conac<\/em>, 1961), Teatrul Zero (<em>Nebunul \u0219i c\u0103lug\u0103ri\u021ba<\/em>, 1963), Teatrul Happening (<em>G\u0103inu\u0219a-de-balt\u0103<\/em>, 1967), Teatrul Imposibil (<em>Dr\u0103g\u0103la\u0219ii \u0219i pocitaniile<\/em>, 1973) \u0219i culmin\u00e2nd cu Teatrul Mor\u021bii (din 1975).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\u00cen anii \u201960 a renun\u021bat la pictura clasic\u0103 \u00een favoarea conceptului de\u00a0<em>emballages<\/em>\u00a0(ambalaje). \u00cen 1975 a publicat manifestul Teatrului Mor\u021bii. Spectacolul s\u0103u\u00a0<em>Clasa moart\u0103<\/em>\u00a0(1975) este considerat o capodoper\u0103 a teatrului secolului al XX-lea.
