At this season-closing concert, Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra appear on stage with the young Polish violinist Agata Szymczewska, about whom The Times wrote: \u201cShe plays with a poise, authority and musical intelligence beyond her years, sounding at times like a fiery young Ida Haendel.\u201d \/Hilary Finch, \u201eThe Times\u201d, London 14th October 2010\/
The comparison to the grand dame of violinists is not unwarranted because both she and her compatriot have won the highly prestigious Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition \u2013 albeit with a 70-year gap between \u2013 and in both cases the win opened the door to fame for the artists. Agata Szymczewska has taken to the stage of the New York\u2019s Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., London\u2019s Wigmore Hall, Paris\u2019s Th\u00e9\u00e2tre des Champs-\u00c9lys\u00e9es, Amsterdam\u2019s Concertgebouw and Sala S\u00e3o Paulo in Brazil. For this Liszt Academy recital, there is a performance of a piece by the highly influential Polish composer Henryk G\u00f3recki, who died in 2010, before which we have Le\u00f3 Weiner\u2019s opus Pastorale, Fantasia and Fugue, and the string orchestral arrangement of Debussy\u2019s quartet.<\/p>\n
