DESCRIPTION:“Every director should be suspected of the worst, including nymphomania,
schizophrenia, pederasty, necrophilia, idiocy, cannibalism, and a total
lack of imagination. Other than that, he should be trusted completely.”
8 - 12th September 2026 | 19:30PM | Golden Goose Theatre, London
For five performances only, Broken Nose Theatre presents Wznowienie (“The
Revival”), a remarkable and darkly funny work by one of Poland’s most
celebrated playwrights and directors, Maciej Wojtyszko.
Performed in the original Polish with English surtitles, this is a rare
opportunity for London audiences to experience a masterwork of contemporary
Polish theatre.
Come and discover a remarkable piece of Polish theatre: funny, unsettling,
intimate and unexpectedly devastating.
About the Play
Two actresses return to the stage to recreate the final performance of a
legendary director they both loved.
As they restage his work, memories begin to surface. Their shared history
with Tadeusz; his brilliance, his power, his demands, and the circumstances
surrounding his death, becomes increasingly difficult to separate from the
performance itself.
Was his death an accident? Could it have been suicide? And what happens
when admiration, artistic devotion and emotional dependence become
impossible to untangle?
At the centre of the production is a deceptively simple puppet show:
something playful, almost childish, which gradually becomes a vessel for
grief, memory, disappointment and everything that cannot easily be said.
Sharp, funny and quietly devastating, Wznowienie explores artistic genius
and its darker consequences, the complicated relationships between women
and powerful men, and the emotional cost of devotion. It is a nuanced and
deeply human story about creativity, trauma, love and the stories we tell
ourselves in order to keep going.
What begins as a revival of an old performance becomes something far more
personal.
A Unique Collaboration
This London production has a special connection to its author.
Maciej Wojtyszko is personally connected to one of the actresses and has
been collaborating with the company on this production, revisiting and
rewriting parts of the text specifically for these performers.
The result is not simply a revival, but a living, evolving encounter
between playwright, performers and the present moment.
