{"id":10979,"date":"2025-08-07T18:04:07","date_gmt":"2025-08-07T16:04:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/london\/?p=10979"},"modified":"2025-09-01T13:33:08","modified_gmt":"2025-09-01T11:33:08","slug":"applications-open-national-centre-for-writing-emerging-translator-mentorships-2025-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/instytutpolski.pl\/london\/2025\/08\/07\/applications-open-national-centre-for-writing-emerging-translator-mentorships-2025-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Applications Open \u2013 National Centre for Writing Emerging Translator Mentorships 2025\/2026"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Deadline: 31st August 2025, 11:59pm<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Applications for the 2025\u20132026 ETM programme are open!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The 2025\u201326 languages are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Arabic\u00a0<\/strong>(mentored by Sawad Hussain)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Faroese\u00a0<\/strong>(mentored by Marita Thomsen)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Dutch from Flanders\u00a0<\/strong>(mentored by Jonathan Reeder)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Korean\u00a0<\/strong>(mentored by Clare Richards)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Lithuanian\u00a0<\/strong>(mentored by Kotryna Garanasvili)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Norwegian<\/strong>\u00a0(mentored by Rosie Hedger)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Polish\u00a0<\/strong>(mentored by Sean Gasper Bye)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Languages of India\u00a0<\/strong>(mentored by Mohini Gupta); this mentorship is open to India-based translators only, who have not received a Charles Wallace India Trust fellowship in the last five years and who agree to attend London Book Fair as part of the mentorship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">All mentorships are open to translators based anywhere in the world, except for the Languages of India mentorship, which is available only to those based in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-7d35a801a2c76dd918f532b900e3a4f7\"><strong>What selected mentees will receive<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Mentees receive\u00a0<strong>six months of personal mentoring<\/strong>\u00a0with a mentor in their language or field. \u00a0They will also be awarded\u00a0an\u00a0<strong>\u00a3800 stipend\u00a0<\/strong>to cover expenses associated with the mentorship, such as travel, with an\u00a0<strong>uplift of up to \u00a3300\u00a0<\/strong>if the mentee attends London Book Fair. \u00a0(Mentees selected onto the\u00a0<strong>Arabic, Dutch from Flanders and the Languages of India strands\u00a0<\/strong>will receive\u00a0<strong>additional financial support\u00a0<\/strong>for travel).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The mentorship will include various\u00a0<strong>online industry events\u00a0<\/strong>with tailored training and talks, a feature at International Translation Day and\u00a0<strong>attendance of London Book Fair\u00a0<\/strong>with a\u00a0<strong>networking day<\/strong>\u00a0in either Norwich or London. \u00a0The mentees\u2019 work will also be celebrated in a concluding\u00a0<strong>digital showcase<\/strong>, when a<strong>\u00a0print and digital anthology\u00a0<\/strong>with samples of the mentees\u2019 translations will be\u00a0<strong>published<\/strong>, to further amplify their work.\u00a0\u00a0In addition, mentees are offered\u00a0<strong>one year\u2019s membership of the Society of Authors\/Translators Association<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">National Centre for Writing will facilitate an initial planning meeting between successful applicants and their mentors to agree on the scope of their project and how they will work together. The mentoring period lasts\u00a0<strong>from October 2025 to March 2026<\/strong>, including an in-person meeting in Norwich or London from\u00a0<strong>9-12 March 2026<\/strong>. During this time, the mentoring pair will meet at least four times, either in person, by virtual media or by phone as appropriate and agreed between them. The mentoring period lasts\u00a0from October 2025 to March 2026, including an in-person meeting in Norwich or London from\u00a09-12 March 2026. During this time, the mentoring pair will meet at least four times, either in person, by virtual media or by phone as appropriate and agreed between them. In between meetings, they will exchange work and comments via email.\nWho can apply?\nThe programme is open to emerging translators at no cost to them. An emerging translator is someone who has published no more than one full-length work of literary translation. MFA and MA students in translation can apply, but priority may be given to those who do not have access to the kind of guidance already present in a translation degree programme.\nThough English is the target language, the emerging translator need not live in the UK.
