It is part of the Institute\u2019s mission to share the abundance of Polish culture with international audiences. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">This year the Festival includes the world premiere of an extraordinary new setting of the&nbsp;<strong>Latin Mass<\/strong>&nbsp;by Marek Raczy\u0144ski, a rising star of the Polish choral scene on the international stage, as well as more than twenty UK premieres. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Of these there are two moving motets to Mary, Mother of God, by the late&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/culture.pl\/en\/artist\/henryk-mikolaj-gorecki\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Henryk Miko\u0142aj G\u00f3recki<\/a>, known to many worldwide for his&nbsp;<strong>Symphony of Sorrowful Songs<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Another notable premier piece Festival Artistic Director is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/culture.pl\/en\/artist\/pawel-lukaszewski\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pawe\u0142 \u0141ukaszewski<\/a>\u2019s centenary tribute to St John Paul II,&nbsp;<strong>Missa Sancti Papae Ioannis Pauli Secundi Magni<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>November 8 &#8211; 7.30pm,<\/strong> <strong>Polyphony: Music for a Polish Pope<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Joy &amp; Devotion 2022 opens on 8 November with Stephen Layton conducting Polyphony, a choir he founded in 1986 and now widely regarded as one of the best small professional choirs in the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The concert celebrates the legacy of St John Paul II who helped to secure the peaceful collapse of the Soviet Union and thus the liberation of the Polish nation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In doing so, he inspired his native Polish composers to write some of the most communicative choral pieces of the 20th century.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/culture.pl\/en\/artist\/wojciech-kilar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wojciech Kilar<\/a>\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>Agnus Dei<\/strong>&nbsp;commences the evening: an affecting wall of sound and prayer for peace, composed in 2000. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Pawe\u0142 \u0141ukaszewski\u2019s papal tribute, written to mark the centenary of St John Paul II\u2019s birth in 2020, will receive its UK premiere. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The evening will conclude with Marian Borkowski\u2019s powerful&nbsp;<strong>Libera me<\/strong>.
