Solastalgia<\/em> <\/em><\/strong>is a new dance performance that responds to the climate emergency that we face today, fostering emotional resilience, hope and a sense of togetherness in both performers and audiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Created by Polish-born, London-based choreographer Kasia Witek<\/a>, Solastalgia <\/em>explores the wide range of emotions that the climate crisis evokes, questioning our perception of nature as \u2018other\u2019. It draws inspiration from the works of choreographer Deborah Hay, philosopher Timothy Morton, and environmental artist Andy Goldsworthy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Solastalgia<\/em>, Kasia Witek says: \u201cIn my artistic work, I look closer at how a somatic approach to movement affects our understanding of the body as nature and, in extension, its potential to reconfigure the relationship of self and other; moving from the sense of separation to experiencing the joy of coexistence\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n

The performance will be accompanied by live music by bassist James Opstad, with original music score by Alex Roth, a long-term collaborator in Witek\u2019s previous works. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kasia Witek<\/strong> (<\/strong>artistic director\/choreographer)<\/em> is a Polish-born, UK-based dance artist and choreographer. Her work spans installation, video, theatre and outdoor performance. Human kinship with the non-human environment is a central theme in much of her work as both a maker and performer. Her deep passion for music permeates all of her projects and she often collaborates closely with composers and musicians to create multi-sensory experiences. Her works include National Polish Theatre: Tale of the snakes heart<\/em> (2022) and The hearing trumpet <\/em>(2021) with Agnieszka Glinska, solo performance with London Symphony Orchestra Towards Hope<\/em> (2018), one wall of me<\/em> (2019), You, passing<\/em> (2016) to name a few. She also makes work for opera, film and theatre. Kasia is a recipient of Exit Visa Residency at The Place &  member of Chisenhale Dance Space.
