For her EP launch evening, Basia will present a set of her folky material, followed by a set of her piano songs and compositions, performed with her trio and Shem Fillmore. A very special guest, guitarist Ben Walker, is also to make an appearance!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Born & raised in Poland, Basia Bartz<\/a><\/strong> has established herself as a prolific player on the London music scene since relocating to the UK over fifteen years ago. As a violinist, she has been a member of a myriad of bands and projects across genres, spanning folk, Americana, experimental, jazz, pop, and even dance. A great number of singer-songwriters have called upon the violinist to help embellish their songs with her sensitive ear and versatile playing over the years.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Inspired by the musicians around her, as well as her own personal evolution, began\u00a0singing and composing original songs in 2019, using not only violin but also a piano, looper, and at times a cello. Continuing her long love for folk, she began collaboration with Ben Walker, highly regarded British folk guitarist and producer. Their combined efforts resulted in her first EP titled\u00a0out of the woods<\/em>.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

For her piano-led compositions Basia put together a jazz trio, consisting of Ben Reed (bass) and Chris Jones (drums). They are frequently joined by guest musicians such Shem Fillmore (sarangi\/mandolin) or Tomek G\u0142azik (sax). Basia and her band are currently recording their first album.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether performing arrangements of traditional songs or her own original material, Basia combines sounds from the many musical worlds she\u2019s visited and weaves them into an intricate and evocative musical tapestry.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n

Shem Fillmore<\/strong> has played with various bands in a range of styles, but his main project now is his own exploration and reinvention of English traditional music. He plays violin, mandolin and tonight will dip into Hindustani classical influences with his sarangi, a bowed lute from south Asia.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n
