A new heritage project \u2018Capturing shadows\u2019 aims to conserve the living history of Mansfield’s CEE communities. The initiative is funded by Historic England\u2019s Everyday Heritage grant programme and celebrates working class histories and seeks to explore untold stories and celebrate the people and places at the heart of the region’s history.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

CEE Notts is an online archive sharing memories of Nottinghamshire\u2019s Central and Eastern European communities from past and present. Through social media and public programmes it promotes learning and cultural exchange for those living in Nottinghamshire as well as celebrates the diversity of Central and Eastern Europe: its culture, history, and people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to support from Historic England\u2019s Everyday Heritage grant programme, CEE Notts is launching a new four month initiative to share, celebrate, and record the history of Central and Eastern Europe communities in the Mansfield area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Louise Brennan, Historic England Regional Director (Midlands)<\/strong>: There are so many hidden histories to uncover here in the Midlands, every community has a story to tell and Mansfield\u2019s unique history involving Central and Eastern European communities deserves to be better known.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Liam Skillen, CEE Notts Project Manager<\/strong>: Recognising and acknowledging the diversity in our community is only ever a good thing and helps us strengthen our connections. I\u2019m so lucky to have grown up and live in Mansfield, and it\u2019s incredibly fulfilling to celebrate the town\u2019s past and future.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Mansfield has seen CEE groups settle in the town at various times including the aftermath of World War Two and the 1956 Hungarian revolution, and the accession of predominantly Eastern European states to the EU in 2004 and 2007.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local residents will be invited to take part in a public programme including talks, a documentary screening, creative workshops, a collaborative exhibition<\/strong> and more, to share and bring together stories from this important part of the local area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
