hoshii<\/strong> (which means 'to desire’ in Japanese) is the latest project of the acclaimed saxophonist and producer Kuba Wi\u0119cek, returning to the jazz scene with new ideas gathered over recent years while collaborating with various artists from the hip-hop and the alternative music scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The music played by the hoshii band consists of beats initially created by Kuba, which are arranged for a jazz quartet and then produced in a way that aims to redefine the sound of contemporary jazz.

The band also includes pianist Grzegorz Tarwid, whom Kuba studied with in Copenhagen, Max Mucha \u2013 a bassist known for collaborations with Christian Scott, and drummer Mi\u0142osz Berdzik, a recent graduate of the Berklee College of Music.

The context for the music is a story about an entity (named hoshii) originating from a planet called Versus, located several galaxies away from Earth. Hoshii, bored with its perfect and predictable life, sets out on a journey to experience something new and ends up on Earth. Initially faced with rejection from humans, over time, the situation changes, and the entity begins to gain acceptance in the eyes of the new environment.

Downbeat magazine picks Kuba Wi\u0119cek as one of the musicians who has potential to shape the sound of jazz in the future alongside names like Shabaka, Yussef Days and Joel Ross.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joanna Duda founded the Trio in 2017, with the idea that the sound would become the ensemble\u2019s hallmark and its defining quality. She treats the jazz trio format as one of many conventions she explores alongside Maksymilian Mucha (double bass) and Micha\u0142 Bryndal (drums). All the band members also incorporate electronic elements \u2013 effects, samplers, and sequencers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joanna Duda Trio has, in recent years, firmly established itself on the European music scene, regularly performing at major jazz festivals that champion innovative approaches to jazz and improvisational music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They have been working on the concept of „reconstruction from deconstruction” since 2012, often redefining the classics and mixing them with the latest genres of contemporary urban music, creating a completely new quality and original sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The uniqueness of EABS, however, is determined not only by the instrumental mastery and topicality of their language of expression but also by hip-hop provenance and socio-political commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EABS’ forthcoming sixth album is a return to their roots \u2013literally and figuratively. It is an in-depth study on rhythm, which materialised in the form of the album titled Reflections of the Purple Sun. The back to the roots part manifests itself not only in the lack of guest instrumentalists but also in a renewed focus on the history of Polish jazz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoshii, bored with its perfect and predictable life, sets out on a journey to experience something new and ends up on Earth.
