DESCRIPTION:Polish writer and reporter Małgorzata Margo Rejmer will take part in the
Long Night of Literatures 2026, bringing her distinctive literary
perspective on memory, history and the lives of ordinary people to
audiences in Delhi, Varanasi and Kolkata.
This October, the Long Night of Literatures returns to India with a
programme dedicated to contemporary European writing and the voices
reshaping its boundaries. Bringing together authors who experiment with
form, challenge established narratives and find new ways of telling
stories, the festival offers readers an opportunity to meet writers whose
work reaches far beyond the printed page.
Among this year’s guests is acclaimed Polish author and reporter
Małgorzata Margo Rejmer, known for her vivid literary portraits of Eastern
Europe and the Balkans. Her work explores how political upheavals,
collective memory and historical trauma shape individual lives, often
revealing the human stories that official accounts leave untold.
Rejmer is the author of Bucharest: Dust and Blood and Mud Sweeter than
Honey, a book exploring life in communist Albania through the experiences
of those who lived under the regime. Her short story collection The Burden
of Skin further examines the complexities of human experience, identity and
memory. Combining meticulous research with a strong literary sensibility,
she moves between reportage and fiction to illuminate the relationship
between private lives and the wider forces of history.
Her writing has earned her some of Poland’s most prestigious literary
distinctions, including the Kościelski Prize and the Polityka Passport
Award. Her work has also brought international attention to places and
experiences that remain unfamiliar to many readers, making her an important
voice in contemporary Polish literature.
At the Long Night of Literatures, audiences will have the opportunity to
encounter Rejmer’s work in an intimate, conversational setting. Her
participation invites readers to consider how literature can recover
overlooked histories, give voice to difficult experiences and build bridges
between cultures.
The festival will travel across three Indian cities, creating space for
encounters between writers and readers and celebrating the diversity of
contemporary European literature.
Meet Małgorzata Margo Rejmer at the Long Night of Literatures 2026:
Three cities, a shared literary journey, and an opportunity to discover
contemporary Polish writing through one of its most compelling voices.
