Polish Cultural Institute New York is proud to announce Polish violinist Magdalena Filipczak makes her Carnegie Hall Recital Debut as a part of Rising Artists Series.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Magdalena Filipczak <\/strong><\/a>makes her Carnegie Hall debut in a program inspired by the phantasy motive, including famous Phantasies by Schubert and Sch\u00f6nberg. Filipczak showcases also selections from her debut album Essence of Violin, featuring works by Witold Lutoslawski, Britten, and Saint-Sa\u00ebns\/Ysa\u00ffe, plus Ravel’s Violin Sonata No. 2 which she recently recorded with eminent Hungarian pianist Peter Frankl for their upcoming duo album. Cherchant, composed by Stephen Coxe and dedicated to Magdalena Filipczak, receives its world premiere. Magdalena will be performing on a Nicol\u00f2 Amati violin kindly lent by the Beare\u2019s International Violin Society in London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cShe is a musical chameleon, quickly getting under the skin of whatever she\u2019s playing\u2019,” wrote The ARTS DESK about award-winning Polish violinist Magdalena Filipczak. With her eclectic and extensive repertoire she has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in the UK (including Wigmore Hall, Barbican Hall, St Martin in the Fields, St John\u2019s Smith Square), in Europe (among others in Het Concertgebouw, Tallinn Philharmonic, Cracow Philharmonic, Baltic Philharmonic) as well as in the USA, Canada and South America. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a young creator of culture, and for her numerous competition successes, she was awarded a 'Mloda Polska Scholarship’ (\u201aYoung Poland\u2019) by the Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. Among her many international competition successes, Magdalena is the winner of the IV Heino Eller International Violin Competition in Estonia and recipient of special prizes for the best interpretation of Bach (B\u00e4renreiter Edition prize) and the best concerto performance. Most recently she has received Gold Prize of 2018 Manhattan International Music Competition, Silver Prize at 2018 Berliner International Music Competition, and First Prize at 2017 United States International Concerto Competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last October Magdalena has recorded a CD with a renowned Hungarian pianist Peter Frankl that will be released in 2020. On the disc will be Sonatas by Schumann (Op. 121), Debussy and Ravel (No. 2). Magdalena\u2019s solo debut CD \u2018Essence of Violin\u2019 has been praised by THE STRAD Magazine as \u2018…glittering….beguiling…captivating…hauntingly atmospheric…\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She has also featured in two discs with II Viennese School composers, recorded together with Gruppo Montebello at the Banff Arts Centre in Canada. With the Royal Northern Sinfonia she recorded violin solos for a CD \u2018Songs to the North Sky\u2019 by Grammy Award composer Tim Garland and solos for Garland\u2019s next 5 stars album \u201cThe Weather Walker\u201d. She also plays on two CDs with music by Peter Gregson: \u201cQuartets: One\u201d and \u201cQuartets: Two\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Media appearances include BBC Radio 3, Chicago WFMT Radio, Dutch Radio 4, Canadian Radio, Bulgarian TV, Polish, Austrian and Estonian TV and Radio. Magdalena also toured Brazil and Argentina as a guest leader\/director with the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra.
She is a current recipient of a prestigious Fellowship Award of CUNY Graduate Center in New York, where she is mentored by violinists Daniel Phillips and Donald Weilerstein, and additionally she studies voice with Robert White. She is a D.M.A. (Doctor of Musical Arts) in Performance candidate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Magdalena graduated from the Guildhall School in London, where she studied with a distinguished Polish violinist Krzysztof S\u00b4mietana. At the Guildhall she won the Max and Peggy Morgan Violin Prize and Ivan Sutton Chamber Music Award of the City Music Society in London. In addition to violin playing, Magdalena trained voice with John Evans and later she had private lessons with Benita Valente. Upon graduating, she was awarded an Individual Artist’s Fellowship. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Magdalena was one of the Holland Music Sessions\u2019 New Masters on Tour. She attended and performed at American training programs, including the Perlman Chamber Music Program and Residencies, Yellow Barn, Norfolk Festival, as well as Krzyzowa-Music in Poland and IMS Prussia Cove in the UK.
She has given masterclasses in Brazil and Yellow Barn\u2019s Young Artists Program and through the Perlman\u2019s Music Program Residencies. Magdalena is an Adjunct Professor at the Aaron Copland School of Music (Queens College) in New York, where she teaches violin and chamber music. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jessica Xylina Osborne <\/strong>
Hailed by the Washington Post as a pianist \u201cwith a refreshing mellowness and poetic touch\u201d after her debut with the National Symphony Orchestra, Jessica Xylina Osborne is one of the most intensely expressive and passionate artists of her generation. She is widely considered to be one of the most sought-after collaborative partners, and has worked closely with some of the world’s finest musicians, including Timothy Eddy, Hilary Hahn, and Mark Kosower. She has performed throughout the continental U.S., Europe, and Asia, and has appeared in recitals at many of the world’s most celebrated venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, the Mus\u00e9e du Louvre in Paris, and the Seoul Arts Center.
