<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The Singer\u2019s Warsaw Festival of Jewish Culture — one of the most celebrated arts festivals in Poland — returns to New York City, November 17\u201319, 2019 for the second year. The most highly anticipated event on Warsaw\u2019s cultural calendar, this year\u2019s local program features a cantorial concert by Yaakov Lemmer<\/strong> and Frank London<\/strong>, film screenings, readings of short stories by I.B. Singer<\/strong>, and plays by the Jewish Theater in Warsaw<\/strong>, one of only two Jewish theaters in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now in its 16th edition<\/strong>, the Singer\u2019s Warsaw Festival of Jewish Culture <\/strong>is an iconic annual event organized by Warsaw\u2019s Shalom Foundation<\/strong> in cities associated with the Nobel Prize winner Isaac Bashevis Singer<\/strong>. The artistic director is Golda Tencer<\/strong>, director of the The Ester Rachel and Ida Kaminska Jewish Theatre <\/strong>in Poland \u2013 Center of Yiddish Culture<\/strong>, creator of the Shalom Foundation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The festival opens November 17<\/strong> at the Lincoln Square Synagogue<\/strong> with a concert by the world-class cantor Yaakov Lemmer<\/strong> and Grammy Award winner Frank London<\/strong>, featuring the work of Gershon Sirota <\/strong>and Mordechai Gebirtig<\/strong>. This unforgettable musical event will be followed by a performance of Itzik Manger\u2019s <\/strong>play Humesh Lider by the Jewish Theater in Warsaw, directed by Andrei Munteanu<\/strong>, with a score by Dov Seltzer<\/strong>, one of the world\u2019s most acclaimed contemporary composers and conductors. Itzik Manger takes us on a journey through the rich world of Yiddish tradition with the lighthearted, funny and informative poems from his \u201cFive Books of the Torah\u201d and their Biblical characters, whom the author depicts as contemporary Jews living in small-town Poland in the 1920s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Naturally, the festival will also showcase the work of its namesake, Isaac Bashevis Singer<\/strong>. Children and adults are invited to attend Singer Storytime at the Brooklyn Public Library \u2014 Midwood Branch and the New York Public Library – Riverside Branch. Special guests who will read stories by I.B. Singer include actors: Anna Podolak<\/strong>, Dawid Szurmiej<\/strong>, Jasper McGruder <\/strong>and Stacey Robinson<\/strong>. The event of the New York Library <\/strong>will feature Mr. Adrian Kubicki, the director of The Polish Cultural Institute in New York.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The festival continues at the City College of New York<\/strong>, which will host screenings of the films Yentl<\/em><\/strong>and Enemies<\/em><\/strong>, <\/strong>A Love Story<\/em><\/strong>,<\/strong> both adapted from the writings of I.B.
