[&#8230;] Drawing on musical modernism as much as specific rural folk traditions, Lautari deliver a compelling contemporary account from one small corner of the European folk traditions amazing legacy.&#8221; &#8212;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theartsdesk.com\/new-music\/cd-lautari-vol-67-2014-live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TheArtsDesk<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8222;&#8230;a fascinating, engaging avant-garde deconstruction of traditional tunes&#8230; Lautari shows once more how folk music and jazz can coexist with neither of them being treated in a servile way.&#8221; &#8212; Etnosystem<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LAUTARI is coming to the US for the second time. Performing at six prestigious music festivals and New York&#8217;s own SummerStage Preview Showcase, Lautari will present a program of new avant-garde renditions of folk music for chamber ensemble and prepared piano. In a tour co-presented by the Polish Cultural Institute New York, the band will play in Cedar Rapids, IA; Bloomington, IN; Minneapolis, MN; Chicago, IL; and New York, NY.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>LAUTARI has long been dedicated to restoring the splendor of&nbsp;<strong>Polish folk music<\/strong>: from emulating original folk sounds, to accompanying dancing as their rural predecessors did, to taking part in avant-garde music projects. They have performed at barn dances, in jazz clubs, and in large concert halls in Poland and abroad. Firmly believing musical notation to be inadequate for recording folk music, they have made a point of&nbsp;<strong>learning their repertoire directly from village musicians<\/strong>. During this musical adventure, they have often turned to the work of the late 19th century Polish ethnographer,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/culture.pl\/en\/artist\/oskar-kolberg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Oskar Kolberg<\/strong><\/a>&#8211;and not only to the tunes he collected, but also the wide cultural context of folk music that he depicts&#8211;to infuse their contemporary interpretations with the emotions and imagination of earlier times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Maciej Filipczuk<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; Performing at six prestigious music festivals and New York's own SummerStage Preview Showcase, Lautari will present a program of new avant-garde renditions of folk music for chamber ensemble and prepared piano. In a tour co-presented by the Polish Cultural Institute New York, the band will play in Cedar Rapids, IA; Bloomington, IN; Minneapolis, MN; Chicago, IL; and New York, NY. \nLAUTARI has long been dedicated to restoring the splendor of Polish folk music: from emulating original folk sounds, to accompanying dancing as their rural predecessors did, to taking part in avant-garde music projects. They have performed at barn dances, in jazz clubs, and in large concert halls in Poland and abroad. Firmly believing musical notation to be inadequate for recording folk music, they have made a point of learning their repertoire directly from village musicians.
