Each year on September 26th<\/sup>, the European Day of Languages (EDL)<\/a><\/em> celebrates the rich linguistic and cultural diversity of Europe. Initiated by the Council of Europe<\/a> and supported by the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC)<\/a>, the day promotes the importance of lifelong language learning and fosters appreciation for the many languages spoken both across Europe and around the world. Whether inside the classroom or in everyday life, language learning is a powerful tool for intercultural dialogue, inclusion, and mutual understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EUNIC New York\u2019s 2025 Project: \u201cEurope in the City\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To mark this year\u2019s European Day of Languages, EUNIC New York invites New Yorkers to explore the many European influences woven into the city\u2019s urban landscape. Our 2025 initiative, \u201cEurope in the City\u201d, features a specially curated map of Manhattan landmarks; from bridges and buildings to statues and museums that reflect the enduring impact of European languages, artists, and histories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the days leading up to September 26, EUNIC New York member institutions will take over the @eunicnyc<\/em><\/strong> Instagram channel to spotlight each location; sharing language trivia, historical context, and cultural insights that bring \u201cEurope in the City\u201d to life. Follow along on Instagram to learn something new, explore the city with fresh perspective, and celebrate the power of languages to connect us all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

EUNIC New York<\/strong><\/a>: 
Created in 2007, the New York cluster of EUNIC, bringing together around 40 cultural institutes, general consulates and cultural missions from the countries of the European Union, is working together with NYC and American partners to promote cultural diversity and understanding; strengthen the transatlantic dialogue and cultural cooperation; conduct research and share best practices; showcase European values and creativity in the arts, creative industries, development cooperation, digitalization, education, gender, heritage, human rights, language and multilingualism, social inclusion, sports, sustainability, tourism, youth, and others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Queens Night Market<\/a>:<\/strong>
The Queens Night Market is a large, family-friendly, open-air night market in Queens. It features up to 100 independent vendors selling merchandise, art, food, and small-scale cultural performances, all celebrating the rich cultural diversity and heritage of NYC and Queens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
