Ewa Kubiak investigates the role of scenography and the power of illusion in creating fiction. By quoting props and the setting from existing Hollywood Golden Era films or music videos, the artist dissects the cinematic structures to analyze and reveal how the fantasy is built and from these elements creates a new visual story. The artist&#8217;s interests extend to the ambiguity of common space and she has worked within venues and buildings whose functions have been demolished or altered as was the case in her last performance, The Kiosk, which took place in an abandoned coffee and ice-cream stand in Tranas, Sweden. Ewa Kubiak has earned several one-person shows in Poznan and Lyon and has been included in group exhibitions throughout Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>ArtsLink Residencies program is one of the components of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cecartslink.org\/grants\/artslink_residencies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CEC ArtsLink<\/a>, an organization which promotes international exchange of dialogue in visual and performing arts and the cultural management in the United States and 37 countries since 1962. Launched in 1993, ArtsLink Residencies is the first large-scale initiative in the U.S. based on five-weeks of programming nurtures new collaborative paths between the US and Eastern European countries, including countries of the former Soviet Block.
