This fall, experience the films of Andrzej Wajda on the big screen.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The year 2026 has been designated the Year of Andrzej Wajda. It is a special moment to return to his work, look at his films with fresh eyes, and open an intergenerational conversation about history, community, responsibility, and freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This fall, audiences in the United States will have an opportunity to revisit Wajda\u2019s films as important records of their time and as works that continue to invite reflection. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Few filmmakers devoted themselves as consistently to examining the history of modern Poland\u2014or to revealing how political upheaval shapes the lives of ordinary people. Over the course of his extraordinary career, Wajda created a body of work that bears witness to Poland\u2019s shifting political and social landscape while remaining deeply attentive to the individuals living through it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Taken together, these films offer a sweeping portrait of a country reckoning with its past, confronting its present, and imagining its future. Andrzej Wajda<\/strong> (born March 6, 1926, in Suwa\u0142ki; died October 9, 2016, in Warsaw) was a film and theater director, screenwriter, and one of the most important figures in Polish culture of the 20th and early 21st centuries. Spanning more than six decades, his career encompassed dozens of film and theater productions, including more than 40 feature films that have become part of the canon of Polish and world cinema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2000, Wajda received an Academy Honorary Award (an honorary Oscar) for his lifetime achievement. Among his many other honors were the Palme d\u2019Or at the Cannes Film Festival for Man of Iron<\/em> (1981), the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival (1998), and the Golden Bear for Lifetime Achievement at the Berlinale (2006). Wajda was one of the filmmakers who shaped the movement known as the Polish Film School and, over the course of his career, helped define the direction of Polish cinema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
