In addition to presenting the newest Polish productions, the festival will also honor the recently deceased Polish director&nbsp;<strong>Krzysztof Krauze<\/strong>&nbsp;by opening the festival with his last film <em><strong>T<\/strong><\/em><strong><em>he Birds are Singing in Kigali&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>and also with a screening of his older work Papusza both of which were co-directed with&nbsp;<strong>Joanna Kos-Krauze<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>The Birds are Singing in Kigali<\/em><\/strong>, a psychological portrait of the devastating consequences of the 1994 Rwandan genocide, will be screened at the Opening Gala at the Director\u2019s Guild Theater on May 2nd. This special event will be co-presented by the&nbsp;<strong>Polish Cultural Institute<\/strong>&nbsp;and P<strong>ermanent Mission of the Republic of Poland to the United Nations in New York<\/strong>, in celebration of Poland taking over the presidency of the UN Security Council in May 2018. The director&nbsp;<strong>Joanna Kos-Krauze<\/strong>, and the main actresses&nbsp;<strong>Jowita Budnik<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Eliane Umuhire<\/strong>&nbsp;will be present for a Q&amp;A after the screening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other films screened will include last year\u2019s Polish candidate to the Oscars,&nbsp;<strong><em>Spoor<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;based on a novel by Man Booker International finalist Olga Tokarczuk and directed by the award-winning director&nbsp;<strong><em>Agnieszka Holland<\/em><\/strong>, inspired by a true story of the Polish triathlonist Jerzy Gorski&nbsp;<strong><em>Breaking the limits&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>directed by Lukasz Palkowski, Lullaby Killer directed by&nbsp;<strong>Krzysztof Lang<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong><em>Stars<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;directed by&nbsp;<strong>Jan Kidawa-Blonski<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong><em>Plan B<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;directed by&nbsp;<strong>Kinga Debska<\/strong>, T<strong><em>he Eccentrics on the Sunny Side of the Street<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;directed by Janusz Majewski,&nbsp;<strong><em>Amok<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;directed by&nbsp;<strong>Kasia Adamik<\/strong>, the short film&nbsp;<strong><em>On the Road<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;directed by&nbsp;<strong>Bartosz Nowacki<\/strong>&nbsp;and the documentary Have no Fear directed by&nbsp;<strong>Beata Calinska<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Sarah Jacobson<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The New York Polish Film Festival was founded in 2005 by&nbsp;<strong>Hanna Kosinska Hartowicz<\/strong>, who also serves as its artistic director.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/http\/\/www.nypff.com\" target=\"_blank\">SCHEDULE<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wednesday, May 2, 2018 &#8211;
