The Consulate General of the Republic of Poland invites you to a special presentation about the culinary traditions in Poland, from 17th<\/sup>-century royal courts until today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is there more to Poland\u2019s cuisine than pierogis and bigos? Can it compete with French or Italian cooking? Did you know that Poland imported and used exotic spices before they were a fad? What did Paderewski have for lunch before his concert at Madison Square Garden in 1932?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But also, how does a culinary consciousness develop? What is the culinary-related memory, and is there a difference between personal and common memory of food?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Find out these and more from the renowned Polish chef Maciej Nowicki, who leads his team at the King John III Palace Museum in Wilanow, the oldest art museum in Poland, where he co-creates an educational and research program dedicated to Polish cuisine. He gained professional experience in Great Britain and France, but after a period of fascination with modern European cuisine, he decided to combine his love of history with the culinary arts and devoted himself to reconstruction work and Polish recipes from the 17th and 18th centuries. Maciej is a lover and popularizer of old varieties of vegetables, fruits, and wild edible plants. As co-laureate of the prestigious Europa Nostra Award 2019 and Outstanding Polish Chef according to Gault & Milleau 2018, he promotes traditional Polish cuisine at home around the world, including France, the UAE, Japan, Korea, the USA, and the Middle East.
