DESCRIPTION:“The Teacher” (or: How I Got Fired from the Ministry of Education?) is
a new play by the Tmuna Theatre ensemble, written and directed by Odem
Radai, produced with the support of the Polish Institute. The play offers a
multi-sensory, emotional experience that challenges the audience to reflect
on memory, education, trauma, and personal identity. It takes the viewer on
a journey aboard Bus No. 2 of an Israeli youth delegation to Poland, where
a young teacher decides to go with 37 high school students and discovers
that the educational trip quickly becomes a journey of confronting national
and personal memory, repression, and intertwined traumas. The audience is
invited to wear headphones and experience a hyper-realistic soundscape
surrounding the story, bringing them closer to the teacher’s inner world
and providing a deeply personal, contradictory, and simultaneously humorous
and heartbreaking experience.
The play explores the connections between personal and collective memory,
education and trauma, and the ways personal stories are intertwined with
culture and society. It is a captivating, moving, and complex work,
offering a deep insight into both an inner and communal journey. The play
is produced and presented by Tmuna Theatre, a home for creators and
audiences engaged in cultural and community discourse in Tel Aviv and
Israel.
