On this day, after his release from the Magdeburg Fortress, J\u00f3zef Pi\u0142sudski took over military command from the Regency Council and, three days later, assumed supreme authority over civilian matters, to finally \u201cas Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Army [&#8230;] notify belligerent and neutral governments and nations\u201d of the reappearance of \u201cthe reborn and independent Republic of Poland\u201d on the map. After 123 years of captivity, Poland became a sovereign and internationally recognized state.<\/p>\n<p>Five generations had fought in uprisings, cherished the Polish spirit and resisted Germanisation and Russification so that, in November 1918, Poles could taste freedom at last. J\u00f3zef Pi\u0142sudski, Roman Dmowski, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Gen. J\u00f3zef Haller, Ignacy Daszy\u0144ski, Wincenty Witos, and Wojciech Korfanty were the founding fathers of Independent Poland. Those statesmen came from diverse political backgrounds but in 1918 had a shared goal of rebuilding the Polish statehood.<\/p>\n<p>The then Prime Minister J\u0119drzej Moraczewski described the atmosphere of this exceptional moment with these words: \u201cOne cannot convey this elation, this mad joy that the Polish people were filled with at that moment. After 120 years, the fetters burst open. Freedom! Independence! Reunion! Our own country! For ever! Chaos? Never mind. It is going to be fine. [\u2026] Who has not witnessed these brief days, who was not delirious with joy at that time with the whole nation, he will not experience the greatest joy in his life.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The memory of the historic day from 102 years ago, when Poland regained its independence and freedom, remains a source of inspiration for us to act for the good of our country.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Due to the pendemic we are prevented from celebrating in the usual way.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Therefore, we present to you here the spectacular show <em>VIRTUSO<\/em> &#8211; a cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the Musical Theater in Pozna\u0144. Virtuoso is dedicated to the composer <em>Ignacy Jan Paderewski<\/em>.<\/strong><br \/>\nThis is an international co-production &#8211; the music and libretto of which were written by the American composer Matthew Hardy, and the arrangement was made by Andrew Fox.
