The last film meeting in the series\u00a0Between history and cinema<\/i>, dealing with the subject of war and the Holocaust in Polish <\/span><\/p>\n

Polish directors:\u00a0<\/span>This time we will watch the film “Canal” (1957) by the well-known Polish director Andrzej Wajda.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The meeting will take place on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at 17:00 at the University of Haifa.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>The film is the second (and considered the most accessible) of Wajda’s “War Trilogy” and describes the fate of a group of members of<\/span><\/p>\n

the Polish underground during the Warsaw Uprising in 1944.<\/span><\/p>\n

It shows one of the final episodes of the Warsaw Uprising and the evacuation of the insurgents through underground sewers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The film was based on the story Canal (1956) and according to the script written by Jerzy Stefan Stawi\u0144ski, who himself was a participant <\/span><\/p>\n

in the Warsaw Uprising and survived the evacuation through the sewers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Wajda presents his heroes and the events of the war in a unique way, perfectly operating with cinematic means, shifting the lens from <\/span><\/p>\n

the heroic to the human dimension.<\/span><\/p>\n

In 1957, the film received the Special Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival.<\/span><\/p>\n
