The translator, Rina Bodankin, is a laureate of the second edition of the translation workshops organized by the Polish Institute in Tel Aviv in 2022. His two novels <em data-start=\"1412\" data-end=\"1422\">The Book<\/em> and <em data-start=\"1427\" data-end=\"1440\">Reisefieber<\/em> have been translated into multiple languages and have received prestigious literary awards in Poland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1544\" data-end=\"1990\">The novel <em data-start=\"1554\" data-end=\"1563\">Stramer<\/em> was published in Poland in 2019 and has achieved international success. The book tells the story of the Jewish Stramer family in interwar Tarn\u00f3w. As in many Polish cities and towns, in 1921 Jews made up 42% of Tarn\u00f3w\u2019s population, most of whom belonged to the lower social classes. The novel follows the family&#8217;s fate against the backdrop of political events and social changes, culminating in the Nazi occupation of the city.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1992\" data-end=\"2352\">In an interview with <em data-start=\"2013\" data-end=\"2022\">New York Times<\/em> following the publication of his semi-autobiographical novel <em data-start=\"2084\" data-end=\"2094\">The Book<\/em> (2011), \u0141ozi\u0144ski said that working on it helped him understand how Judaism had influenced his family: \u201c<em>I started to feel how important these Jewish roots are to me. I think it\u2019s much easier for my generation than it was for my parents\u2019 generation<\/em>,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2354\" data-end=\"2850\"><em data-start=\"2354\" data-end=\"2363\">Stramer<\/em> is also based on the author\u2019s family history \u2013 his grandfather lived in Tarn\u00f3w at the exact address where the fictional family from the book resides, and his surname was Stramer. \u201c<em>The word \u2018Stramer\u2019 means \u2018strong<\/em>,\u2019\u201d \u0141ozi\u0144ski explained in one of the interviews. \u201c<em>I\u2019ve always liked that name. It disappeared after World War II, along with almost the entire Jewish world. Thanks to this book, it returns and remains. Even antisemites contributed positively to the creation of this novel<\/em>,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2852\" data-end=\"3076\"><em data-start=\"2852\" data-end=\"2861\">Stramer<\/em> was named Book of the Year in Poland by the weekly <em data-start=\"2903\" data-end=\"2913\">Polityka<\/em> and the literary magazine <em data-start=\"2940\" data-end=\"2949\">Ksi\u0105\u017cki<\/em>. His two novels The Book and Reisefieber have been translated into multiple languages and have received prestigious literary awards in Poland.\r\nThe novel Stramer was published in Poland in 2019 and has achieved international success. The book tells the story of the Jewish Stramer family in interwar Tarn\u00f3w. As in many Polish cities and towns, in 1921 Jews made up 42% of Tarn\u00f3w\u2019s population, most of whom belonged to the lower social classes. The novel follows the family's fate against the backdrop of political events and social changes, culminating in the Nazi occupation of the city.\r\nIn an interview with New York Times following the publication of his semi-autobiographical novel The Book (2011), \u0141ozi\u0144ski said that working on it helped him understand how Judaism had influenced his family: \u201cI started to feel how important these Jewish roots are to me. I think it\u2019s much easier for my generation than it was for my parents\u2019 generation,\u201d he said.\r\nStramer is also based on the author\u2019s family history \u2013 his grandfather lived in Tarn\u00f3w at the exact address where the fictional family from the book resides, and his surname was Stramer. \u201cThe word \u2018Stramer\u2019 means \u2018strong,\u2019\u201d \u0141ozi\u0144ski explained in one of the interviews. \u201cI\u2019ve always liked that name. It disappeared after World War II, along with almost the entire Jewish world. Thanks to this book, it returns and remains. Even antisemites contributed positively to the creation of this novel,\u201d he added.\r\nStramer was named Book of the Year in Poland by the weekly Polityka and the literary magazine Ksi\u0105\u017cki. It was also a finalist for the Angelus Central European Literary Award and was nominated for the Nike Literary Award in 2020.\r\nThe translation rights to \u0141ozi\u0144ski\u2019s novel have been acquired by publishers in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Croatia, Hungary, Serbia, Slovakia, Iran, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
