The concerts, entitled \u201cVoices from Beyond the Ghetto Wall\u201d<\/strong>, will feature the world premiere of Zimka\u2019s composition. An acclaimed Polish accordionist and composer, Maciej Zimka lectures at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Krak\u00f3w and is actively involved in promoting music and culture. His new composition combines live music with electronic elements, drawing on Rywka\u2019s writings, which bear witness to life in the ghetto while also revealing her personal reflections, faith and hope.<\/p>\n

Rywka Lipszyc\u2019s diary, written in the \u0141\u00f3d\u017a Ghetto in 1943\u20131944, was published in Poland in its original language version in 2017 by Austeria Publishing House and in English in 2014 under the title Rywka\u2019s Diary: The Writings of a Jewish Girl from the Lodz Ghetto<\/em>. Excerpts from the diary were published in Hebrew in Shifra Mescheloff\u2019s book \u05db\u05de\u05d9\u05d4\u05d4 \u05d5\u05d2\u05e2\u05d2\u05d5\u05e2: \u05d9\u05d5\u05de\u05e0\u05d4 \u05e9\u05dc \u05e8\u05d9\u05d1\u05e6\u05f3\u05d4, \u05d4\u05e0\u05e2\u05e8\u05d4 \u05de\u05d2\u05d8\u05d5 \u05dc\u05d5\u05d3\u05d6\u05f3<\/em> (Longing and Yearning: The Diary of Rivka, the Girl from the \u0141\u00f3d\u017a Ghetto<\/em>). The diary is an exceptional personal testimony to the life of a teenage girl in the ghetto, reflecting her thoughts, spiritual world and the hope she tried to preserve amid the harsh realities of life.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe diary of a girl from the \u0141\u00f3d\u017a Ghetto is an exceptional source in many respects. It documents a period that is scarcely represented in memoirs of the ghetto and is written from the perspective of a group whose voice is almost entirely absent from these accounts: adolescent girls from religious backgrounds\u201d<\/em>, writes Dr Zofia Tr\u0119bacz from the Emanuel Ringelblum Jewish Historical Institute.<\/p>\n

The project will feature Magdalena Kulig (mezzo-soprano)<\/strong> and the chamber ensemble Pro Sonus Ensemble<\/strong>. The concerts presenting the new composition will take place on the following dates:<\/p>\n
