Under Giedroyc,\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"inner\">Kultura<\/span><\/em><span class=\"inner\">\u00a0was a cornerstone of Polish intellectual life in the postwar period. Particularly influential was\u00a0<\/span><em><span class=\"inner\">Kultura<\/span><\/em><span class=\"inner\">\u2019s editorial policy of recognizing Poland\u2019s postwar eastern border and promoting the independence of Lithuania, Belarus, and Ukraine.<\/span><br \/><br \/><strong>The call for applications is open<\/strong> to scholars in all academic disciplines in the humanities and social sciences. In recognition of Giedroyc\u2019s legacy as founding editor of\u00a0<em>Kultura<\/em>, and his contributions to promoting wider understanding of the interconnected history and intellectual traditions of the lands of modern-day Poland, Belarus, Lithuania, and Ukraine, these fellowships are designated for scholars working on projects related to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Polish-Ukrainian, Polish-Belarusian, and Polish-Lithuanian relations, and related questions of history, politics, and literature<br \/>OR<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The legacy of Giedroyc, and\/or the journal and publishing house\u00a0<em>Kultura<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Conditions<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h4>\n<p>The selected candidates will be invited to spend a term of four consecutive months at the IWM in Vienna between September 2026 and June 2027 in order to pursue their research projects as Jerzy Giedroyc Junior Visiting Fellows.<\/p>\n<p>Postdoctoral candidates who have defended their PhD by the date of the fellowship application deadline will receive a stipend of EUR 3,300 per month; candidates currently pursuing their doctoral degree will receive a stipend of EUR 2,750 per month. From the stipend, visiting fellows are responsible for covering all living expenses during their research term, including travel to and from Vienna, accommodation costs, health insurance, utilities, local transport, telecommunications, etc., as well as research costs (i.e. for literature, conference fees).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Fellowships start on the first day of the first month and end on the last day of the last month of the fellowship period.<\/p>\n<p>The IWM provides visiting fellows with office space, internet access, in-house research facilities, and administrative services, all free of charge. The visiting fellows will join the IWM community of scholars and are invited to participate in the activities of the Institute.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Eligibility<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h4>\n<p>Candidates for the Jerzy Giedroyc Junior Visiting Fellowship must be enrolled in a doctoral program in the humanities or social sciences, or have obtained a PhD in the same fields not longer than four years previously at the time of the application deadline (not before 10 February 2022).<\/p>\n<p>We do not accept multiple fellowship applications from the same candidate within the same academic year. Candidates who have previously received a resident IWM fellowship must wait two academic years before applying for another fellowship. Recipients of a specific IWM fellowship cannot reapply for the same program.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>How to Apply<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Applications must be submitted through the online application form, which is accessible by clicking on the \u201cApply\u201d button below. In recognition of Giedroyc\u2019s legacy as founding editor of\u00a0Kultura, and his contributions to promoting wider understanding of the interconnected history and intellectual traditions of the lands of modern-day Poland, Belarus, Lithuania, and Ukraine, these fellowships are designated for scholars working on projects related to:\nPolish-Ukrainian, Polish-Belarusian, and Polish-Lithuanian relations, and related questions of history, politics, and literatureOR\nThe legacy of Giedroyc, and\/or the journal and publishing house\u00a0Kultura\nConditions\u00a0\nThe selected candidates will be invited to spend a term of four consecutive months at the IWM in Vienna between September 2026 and June 2027 in order to pursue their research projects as Jerzy Giedroyc Junior Visiting Fellows.\nPostdoctoral candidates who have defended their PhD by the date of the fellowship application deadline will receive a stipend of EUR 3,300 per month; candidates currently pursuing their doctoral degree will receive a stipend of EUR 2,750 per month. From the stipend, visiting fellows are responsible for covering all living expenses during their research term, including travel to and from Vienna, accommodation costs, health insurance, utilities, local transport, telecommunications, etc., as well as research costs (i.e. for literature, conference fees).\u00a0\nFellowships start on the first day of the first month and end on the last day of the last month of the fellowship period.\nThe IWM provides visiting fellows with office space, internet access, in-house research facilities, and administrative services, all free of charge.
