The Polish Institute New Delhi in collaboration with the India International Centre hosted an exhibition titled Nicolaus Copernicus 1473-1543: Life and Work to commemorate the 550th anniversary of the birth of Nicolaus Copernicus; the release of his magnum opus De revolutionibus orbium coelestium (On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres) and the 510th anniversary of the origin of the heliocentric theory.
The exhibition was inaugurated on the 4th of July 2023 by the Director of the Polish Institute, Mr. Kajus Augustyniak. In his warm welcome speech, he addressed the significance of Copernicus figure in Polish history and his legacy. The inauguration was followed by an informal talk among the public over tea and coffee about Copernicus as an outstanding astronomer, mathematician, economist, lawyer, cartographer, and about his medical practice.
The exhibition was prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Govt. of Poland and Archives of the Polish Academy of Sciences. It was on display from July 5th to July 11th, 2023, from 11 am to 7 pm at the Art Gallery, IIC Annexe.
