The Polish Institute Director visits Mehrangarh Fort Art Conservation Centre

On the 6th of February Mehrangarh Fort Art Conservation Centre welcomed Ms Małgorzata Wejsis-Gołębiak, Minister Plenipotentiary and the director at the Polish Institute in New Delhi.

Ms Wejsis- Gołębiak’s connection with the Mehrangarh Museum Trust spans over two decades, as in 2005, she spearheaded the restoration project of renowned Polish artist Stefan Norblin’s paintings at the Umaid Bhawan Palace. The hosts highlighted the mastery of Polish conservation specialists, which they shared with their Indian colleagues. This pivotal project, achieved through the collaboration between the Mehrangarh Museum Trust and the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in New Delhi, stands as a testament to respected H.H Bapji Hukum and the Polish Institute director unwavering dedication to fostering cultural exchange and preservation.

During her visit, the Polish Institute director engaged with the staff, explored the center, and was introduced to ongoing projects. Of particular interest was the conservation work on over 100-year-old carpets. Her enthusiasm underscored her keen interest in enhancing future collaborations particularly aimed at nurturing young conservation professionals and artists.

Her visit served as a poignant reminder of the transformative power of cultural exchange and collaboration in safeguarding Polish and Indian shared history.

We would like to thank Mr. Sunil Laghate, HOD Mehrangarh Art Conservation Centre and Mr. Rajat Jangid, Conservator-Restorer for their kind assistance and support.
