The 215th anniversary of Fryderyk Chopin’s birth

March 1, 2025, marks the 215th anniversary of the birth of the great and legendary Polish composer Fryderyk Chopin. His music belongs to the whole world and is performed globally by artists from all continents.

Born in 1810 in Żelazowa Wola, Poland, he was one of the four children of Justyna Krzyżanowska and the French gentleman Mikołaj Chopin. Fryderyk’s genius was recognized early, and he quickly gained international fame. His music is timeless and continues to inspire artists worldwide.

This year, Chopin’s music will be specially celebrated during the XIX International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, Poland. For many years, pianists from Asia have demonstrated their virtuosity at this prestigious competition.

Not only has Chopin’s music been a source of inspiration, but his biography has also influenced writers and filmmakers. The Polish Embassy and the Polish Institute in New Delhi have actively promoted Chopin’s music and life, organizing concerts, masterclasses, film screenings, educational events with schools, and even workshops inspired by the composer.

In 2010, as part of the celebrations marking the 200th anniversary of Fryderyk Chopin’s birth, a rich program of events was organized across India. A large delegation from India was invited to Poland to participate in the inaugural ceremony of the Year of Chopin and visit places associated with the artist.

Later this year, the Polish Institute in New Delhi plans to further introduce Indian audiences to the genius and life of Fryderyk Chopin.
