Polish Choreographer Bartłomiej Malarz in Residency at Attakkalari

Starting JULY 2025, the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts played host to the Attakkalari Choreographic Residency programme supported by the Polish Institute New Delhi. The residency was designed for choreographers and dancers to explore and develop new pieces of performance, with a focus on transmission and exchange of techniques, movement vocabularies and pedagogical practices.

This effort brought Polish dancer and choreographer, Bartłomiej Malarz, for an exchange with professional dancers of the Attakkalari Dance company and trainee dancers towards developing performance pieces showcased as part of SAMARPANÃ on 08 August 2025 at the Bangalore International Centre.

“SAMARPANĀ – An Evening of Dance & Dedication” brought together performances that mark the culmination of intensive training, exploration, and creative development by a diverse group of performers and students.

SAMARPANĀ was honoured by the presence of distinguished guests including Mr. Raghu Rajappa, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland in Bengaluru; Sonali Kulkarni, a leading Indian business leader; and Professor Sundar Sarukkai, celebrated Indian philosopher and author. Their attendance underscored the cultural significance of the event and the power of international artistic collaboration.

More than just a performance, SAMARPANĀ marked the culmination of weeks of immersive training, exploration, and artistic dedication. It stood as a testament to the transformative power of dance, the strength of cross-cultural collaboration, and the continued commitment of Attakkalari to nurturing new voices in movement arts.

Dancer and Choreographer Bartłomiej Malarz graduated from the Ludomir Różycki National Ballet School in Bytom. He has been working as a dancer with the Wrocław Opera Ballet since 2019, where he also served as the assistant ballet director. He made his choreographic debut in 2016 at the Bożena Kociołkowska International Choreographic Competition in Bytom.
