The 31st edition of the Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF), one of India’s most prestigious cinematic events organized by the Government of West Bengal, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Dhano Dhanyo Auditorium on 6th November. The inaugural ceremony witnessed the presence of distinguished dignitaries, celebrated artists, and eminent personalities from the world of cinema.
This year’s festival will showcase over 215 films across 20 venues in Kolkata, running from November 6 to 13, 2025. In a special tribute, Poland has been selected as the Country of Focus, celebrating its remarkable contributions to global cinema.




Polish presence is strongly marked at this year’s Kolkata International Film Festival, and with Poland proudly designated as the Country of Focus. The segment showcases a rich selection of contemporary Polish films, a retrospective dedicated to Wojciech Jerzy Has, screenings of Polish classics, animation, and documentaries — celebrating the depth and diversity of Polish cinema.
The focus began today at 1 pm with the opening of the exhibition “Polish Cinematography in Posters: The Art of Andrzej Pągowski” at Gaganendra Pradarshashala, featuring 20 artistic posters illustrating most of the Polish films presented at the festival.




The official inauguration started at Nandan I Auditorium and featured speeches by Mr. Gautam Ghose, CEO of Nandan, Mr. Parambrata Chatterjee, actor and director, and Dr. Piotr Antoni Świtalski, Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland, film director Michał Kwieciński.


Guests were treated to a piano recital by Polish pianist Ms. Monika Rosca, setting the prefect tone for the screening of “Chopin, Chopin” directed by Michał Kwieciński. The film captivated the audience with its stunning cinematography, sound, and performances.
This marks only the beginning of Poland’s cinematic journey at KIFF 2025.
