Damian Kocur’s movie presents an insightful picture of the emotional state of helplessness and vulnerability of Ukrainians with unmatched sensitivity. Basking in sunshine, surrounded by beautiful landscapes, and enjoying precious moments together, a Ukrainian family is on what they believe to be an ordinary vacation in Tenerife. But their lives are upended the next day when Russia invades Ukraine, grounding their return flight to Kyiv. Overnight, they find themselves no longer tourists on this idyllic island, but refugees—stranded in paradise. This heartfelt and authentic drama captures the impact of war without a single battle scene.
