Miami’s Arsht Center concert is organized by the Warsaw Philharmonic and Artist Management Partners and presented in collaboration with the Chopin Foundation of the United States, with support from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland, Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Polish Cultural Institute New York, and The American Institute of Polish Culture.
The Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra has made over 150 concert tours around five continents and has appeared in all of the world’s major concert venues, each time receiving high acclaim from audiences and critics alike for its superb and charismatic interpretations.It also regularly performs during the International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competitions in Warsaw and the Warsaw Autumn International Festival of Contemporary Music, records for the Polish Radio and Television as well as Polish and foreign record labels and film companies. The Orchestra has a rich history of performing with the greatest conductors, composers and soloists of the 20th and 21st century. Their collaborations include Edvard Grieg, Sergei Prokofiev, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Maurice Revel, Camille Saint-Saëns as well as pianists Arthur Rubinstein, Vladimir Horowitz and Claudio Arrau.
The Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra gave its first concert on November 5, 1901 in the Philharmonic’s concert hall. The Orchestra was conducted by Emil Młynarski – co-founder, first music director and resident conductor of the Philharmonic, while the solo part was played by Ignacy Jan Paderewski.
The Orchestra has frequently been awarded prestigious record prizes, including the Grammy in 2013 (and six Grammy nominations) for their recordings of Penderecki’s and Karol Szymanowski’s large-scale vocal-instrumental works, Diapason d’Or, ICMA, Gramophone Award, Record Geijutsu, Classical Internet Award, Cannes Classical Award, and the Fryderyk Award of the Polish Phonographic Academy. In 2016, the Orchestra also launched regular on-line streaming of selected concerts.
The 2021/2022 season marks Andrzej Boreyko’s third season as Music and Artistic Director of the Warsaw Philharmonic. Now in his eighth and final season as Music Director of Artis—Naples, Boreyko’s inspiring leadership has raised the artistic standard of the Naples Philharmonic. He concludes his tenure as Music Director by continuing to explore connections between art forms through interdisciplinary thematic programming.
Highlights of previous seasons have included major tours with The State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia (to Hamburg, Cologne, Frankfurt, and Munich) and the Filarmonica della Scala (to Ljubljana, Rheingau, Gstaad, and Grafenegg festivals). Guest engagements from recent seasons include Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai, Sinfonia Varsovia (with Piotr Anderszewski at the Bridging Europe festival at Müpa in Budapest), Mozarteumorchester Salzburg, Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, Frankfurt Museumsgesellschaft, Sydney, Toronto, Seattle, Minnesota, San Francisco, Dallas, and Detroit symphony orchestras, as well as New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, and Los Angeles Philharmonic
An advocate for modern works, Andrzej Boreyko championed compositions by Victoria Borisova-Ollas in an extensive concert and recording project with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in 2017.
Previous appointments include Music Director positions of the Jenaer Philharmonie, Symphoniker Hamburg, Berner Sinfonieorchester, Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, and of the Belgian National Orchestra.
Since winning the prestigious 18th International Chopin Piano Competition, Bruce Liu has been on an extended concert tour, playing to sold out halls in Japan, South Korea, Brazil, Israel and many European countries. Described by The Telegram for his “powerful, polished, and emanates from a disciplined mind” interpretations, Bruce Liu is standing out as one of the most musically dynamic and technically gifted pianists of his generation.
He has performed with major ensembles including the Cleveland Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.
He took part in a North American tour with the China NCPA Orchestra, performing Ravel’s G major Concerto, National Post described his interpretation “a subtle range of French color and feeling.”
Recently, he performed two successive China tours with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine and the Lviv Philharmonic Orchestra (including appearances at the Beijing Concert Hall, the National Center for the Performing Arts, Shanghai Oriental Arts Center, Changsha Concert Hall, and the National Library Arts Center).
He has made numerous studio recordings with ICI Radio-Canada featuring works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Ravel, Satie, and his music has been broadcasted worldwide. “Melodic lines were well-defined, there was steely clarity to his articulation, a huge range of dynamic contrasts, and the lyrical episodes were lovingly shaped. Born in Paris in 1997, Bruce Xiaoyu Liu studied with Richard Raymond and is currently a student of Dang Thai Son.
