On February 18-19 (Beijing) and March 25-26 (Canton), the Polish Institute, in cooperation with Kendal China, organized two events called “Polish Climbing Culture”. It consisted of screenings of documentaries about Polish climbers, discussions with Chinese representatives of mountain movements, including an exchange of views with the audience.
This project was an opportunity to remind about and promote the achievements of Poles in mountain climbing. It was inspired by the announcement of Wanda Rutkiewicz as one of the patrons of 2022 in Poland.
On the first day of the film screening, both in Beijing and Guangzhou, the film “Art Of Freedom” was shown, followed by a discussion with experts. The Polish perspective during the discussion was presented in the form of a screened interview with Mr. Piotr Pustelnik, President of the Polish Mountaineering Association. Mr Pustelnik has climbed all 14 peaks which are over 8,000 m above sea level.
On the second day of the events in Beijing and Guangzhou, a documentary about Jerzy Kukuczka and the film “DOO SAR: A Karakoram Ski Expedition Film” – about the expedition of Andrzej Bargiel, who represents the young generation of Polish mountaineers – were shown.
