Bianka Rolando’s “Underwater Palace” exhibition at Yuan Museum in Beijing

The exhibition, organised by the Yuan Museum and the Polish Institute – Cultural Service of the Embassy of Poland in Beijing, will be open to the public from 24 August to 24 September.

The “Underwater Palace” exhibition is the result of a month-long artist residency organized by Yuan Museum and supported by the Polish Institute in Beijing.

Bianka Rolando is an artist, poet and professor at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan. At the heart of her work are the ways in which image and word intermingle.

Showcased works include the newest large-format paintings created in Beijing as well as older works by the artist on the themes of a dreamy journey through the water current in which forms are found and lost, and in which the moment of their search becomes the beginning of a poetic metaphor. Mysterious records appear in the paintings, which fall apart in the movement of constant tuning and constant searching. Most important is the movement, which does not allow the forms to freeze but makes them potentially mean much more and can open up new interpretive possibilities and expressively stratify under the watchful eye of the viewer.
