Polish Institute in Beijing has the pleasure to announce the screening of the film ” Sonata” at the cinema of the Embassy of Poland on September 19th, 18:30-20:40. We kindly invite you to register for the event through the mini program below.

The screening is a part of the There is ability in disability campaign organized by European network of cultural organizations in China (EUNIC China). Our main idea is to raise awareness about disability through showcasing the remarkable determination and will power of disabled persons in coping with every-day life tasks, and to contribute to further promoting the quality of life for the disabled and their relatives in our respective societies and worldwide.
Sonata is written and directed by Bartosz Blaschke. It is based on facts, a moving story of Grzegorz Płonka, diagnosed as an autistic child, lives in his hermetic world, unable to establish contact with others. When he turns fourteen, it turns out that the cause of isolation is not autism, but hearing loss, which hides great musical talent. Thanks to the auditory implant, Grzegorz begins to learn sounds, words and music with which he falls in love. He wants to become a pianist and perform at the philharmonic hall. Nobody but himself and his closest family believes that a deaf boy – although supported by modern technology – will make his dream come true.
The film has won many awards since it was released in 2021 such us Gdynia (Polish Film Festival) – Audience Award and Award for acting debut in 2021, Eagle (Polish Film Award) – Award for Best Sound in 2022, Sofia (Sofia International Film Festival) – Best Film Award and Audience Award in 2022.
