Poland’s university traditions are among the oldest in Europe. In 1364, King Casimir the Great established the Cracow Academy, known today as Jagiellonian University. Presently, our higher education system is developing rapidly and Poland is fourth in Europe (after the United Kingdom, Germany and France) in terms of the number of people studying at university. The total student population at over 450 university-level institutions is almost 2 million. Polish universities offer over 200 first-rate fields of study as an integral part of the European Higher Education Area, where the level of tuition fees compares favourably with other EU countries. More than 400 study courses are delivered in English in the fields of medicine, engineering, international relations, management and many others.

Erasmus Mundus is a cooperation and mobility programme in the field of higher education that aims to enhance the quality of European higher education and to promote dialogue and understanding between people and cultures through cooperation with third countries. In addition, it contributes to the development of human resources and the international cooperation capacity of higher education institutions in third countries by increasing mobility between the European Union and these countries. The programme offers scholarships in higher education in the European Union for all students enrolled in an educational institution making it a doorway with a great outreach.
Polish Studies in India
Two Indian universities offer their students courses in the Polish language: Delhi University (North Campus) and Banaras Hindu University

Polish courses were introduced at Delhi University as a result of the Indo-Polish agreement on cultural exchange. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Poland supports the program by supplying educational materials, textbooks, literature and dictionaries. It also provides a native Polish speaker as the course lecturer. Every year the Ministry funds two or three scholarships for the most talented Polish language students at DU. They receive a chance to improve their Polish language skills during a three week intensive course at university in Poland.
Polish language is part of two programs at Delhi University; a 3 year diploma course in practical Polish (1.Certificate, 2. Diploma, 3. Advanced Diploma in Polish). It is also available to post-graduate students of Russian language as a complementary subject. University of Calcutta

Manipal University
The establishment of the Department of European Studies at Manipal university stands as a testimony to the development and broadening of relations between India and the European Union. It seeks to foster institutional partnerships between universities with the help of educational enterprise leading to a mutually beneficial exchange of information and enhancement of common human knowledge.
The striking feature of this department is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Manipal University and the University of Warsaw, Poland. This is aimed at facilitating students and faculty exchange between the two universities along with international internships, joint research projects and other academic exchanges.
