NYU Skirball and Contemporary Arts Center New Orleans will present the V.4 Dance Festival, bringing together some of the boldest dance-makers from the Visegrád Group (V4), the cultural and political alliance of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia, April 19th – 20th in New York City and April 25th – 26th in New Orleans. The countries come together for this rare, two-day festival of Central European contemporary dance.
The festival offers a satisfying and intimate sampling of the fantastical and the hypnotic, the tongue-in-cheek and the playful humdrum of everyday, and features performances by Debris Company (Slovakia), Vera Ondrasíková (Czech Republic), Pawel Sakowicz (Poland) and Timothy and the Things (Hungary).
The V.4 Festival, curated by Laurie Uprichard in association with the Polish Cultural Institute New York features one choreographer/company from each of the Visegrád Countries.

Pawel Sakowicz (Poland): Total
Total is a solo piece created and performed by Sakowicz that takes a tongue-in-cheek approach to dance virtuosity. Sakowicz seeks to frame an ideal image of dance virtuosity by drawing on predictable economic, political and meta-humanistic changes, while taking risks in constructing radical scenarios on the politics of desire.

Pawel Sakowicz is a choreographer and dancer working with artists and curators in Warsaw, London and Berlin. He graduated from the University of Warsaw with a degree in political studies and holds an MA in performance and choreography from the London Contemporary Dance School. In the summer of 2013, Pawel was a resident at Berlin’s Uferstudios, where he started to work on a solo inspired by Thomas Bernhard’s language. Bernhard premiered at the Zbigniew Raszewski Theatre Institute in Warsaw in June 2014. The piece was selected to be presented at the Polish Dance Platform 2014. In 2015, Sakowicz was an artist in residence at the Art Stations Foundation by Grazyna Kulczyk (as part of Solo Project Plus 2015). In December 2015, he performed Total, later selected to be presented at the Polish Dance Platform 2017. His last piece, Jumpcore, premiered in December 2017 in Lublin (MAAT Festival).
