Contemporary Yiddish Art in Poland

This lecture will explore contemporary Yiddish art created by young artists in Poland. In the first part, we will highlight institutional Yiddish theatre and the innovative projects now taking shape within it. The second part will turn to the visual arts, focusing on artists who use Yiddish as a medium for creating critical and socially engaged work.

Sara Herczyńska is a memory studies scholar from the University of Warsaw. She is primarily interested in Polish-Jewish memory, museums and visual culture. Currently she is researching postvernacular Yiddish art in Poland.

Witold Mrozek is a theatre researcher and critic, journalist, and contributor for Gazeta Wyborcza and Berliner Zeitung. He is a lecturer at the Academy of Art in Szczecin and the Aleksander Zelwerowicz National Academy of Dramatic Art in Warsaw.
