17. - 25.11.2023 / Warszawa

The 5th edition of the International Music Festival of Central and Eastern Europe Eufonie will take place in Warsaw, from 17 to 25 November.

The leitmotif of of this year’s edition is folk tradition in music, resounding in works of numerous composers from our region. Our identity is reflected by drawing on native folklore, from which many compositions of 19th and 20th century artists were taking their cue. The programme features outstanding composers such as: Bela Bartok, Bedřich Smetana, Nina Šenk, Franz Liszt, Zoltán Kodály, György Ligeti, Roby Lakatos, Witold Lutosławski, Andrzej Panufnik, and Krzysztof Penderecki. As in previous editions, it will be presented in classical, experimental, jazz, and traditional forms.

Renowned orchestras, outstanding soloists and extraordinary conductors will perform at the festival: BBC Symphony Orchestra, Vadim Gluzman, Leonora Armellini, Tomasz Konieczny, Thomas Sanderling, Zsolt Nagy, Olari Elts, Marek Moś, Tomáš Netopil, Anna Sułkowska-Migoń (winner of the La Maestra 2022 competition), RTV Symphony Orchestra Slovenia, Sinfonia Varsovia, Janáček Philharmonic Ostrava, Slovak Sinfonietta Žilina, AUKSO, Hover State Chamber Choir and many others. In the finale we will hear Jutrznia – a monumental, two-part work by Maestro Krzysztof Penderecki, performed by approximately 230 artists.

Eufonie is a festival referring to the traditions of Central and Eastern Europe but going beyond strict geographical definitions and presenting the musical heritage of the region stretching from the Balkans to the Baltic countries and even Scandinavia. This area is a fascinating melting pot of clashing influences from the East and the West, bursting with cultural energy. The Eufonie festival provides special encounters with most beautiful sounds and music masters from Central and Eastern Europe and creates an extremely valuable space for meeting and dialogue and is an excellent opportunity to discover and taste the cultural richness of our region. The Eufonie festival is unique because on the one hand, it draws on tradition, and on the other, it presents whole new, never-before-discovered sounds. Cultural events such as Eufonie are a proof that we belong to a regional community and serve as a reference to common values communicated through culture. They also encourage deeper reflection on the culture of our region.
