Summary of Polish Day in Brussels 2024: a joyful celebration of 20 years of Poland in EU

The third edition of Polish Day in Brussels, the largest Polish festival in this part of Europe, is now behind us. It’s an important event for the vibrant Polish community of nearly 100,000 people, as well as enthusiasts of Polish culture from various nationalities.

The event’s program included presentations of Polish regions, Polish organizations active in Belgium, and Polish schools. Participants enjoyed a wide range of Polish food, and the evening ended with a concert by Katarzyna Nosowska, a legend in Polish music.

This year, the Polish Institute offered several attractions related to the Polish language. We hosted two language workshops “Polish is my superpower” where Maciej Mielnik from the University of Mons and ULB taught foreigners basic Polish phrases with great enthusiasm. Visitors to our tent could learn more about studying Polish in Poland, Belgium, and online.

The highlight of our program was the “Writers’ Corner” – a meeting with Polish writers living in Belgium. Our guests were Grażyna Plebanek, Dionisios Sturis, and Dorota Walczak-Delanois. They shared their experiences of living and building careers outside their home country. The discussion was led by Marta Bark-Stelmaszczyk. We thank everyone for their presence and participation in the conversation despite the challenging weather. The success of this meeting shows that Polish literature is powerful!

Our tent included a guest book where visitors left warm messages to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Poland joining the European Union. Guests also enjoyed taking souvenir photos in the photo booth.

We sincerely thank everyone who braved the rain to join us. It was wonderful to meet and talk with Poles, Belgians of Polish descent, and people from other countries interested in Polish culture. It’s great to see so many of you!

Thank you to the organizers, partners, volunteers, and everyone involved in making this event happen!
