Poetry festival: Transpoesie – Surrealism

TRANSPOESIE celebrates surrealist poetry and linguistic diversity in Brussels from September 26 to 28, 2024 at the centenary of the birth of surrealism. Delve into poetic depths where dreams, reality, and revolutionary spirit intertwine. Embrace the surrealist ethos and see how these poets shape a new world redefining humanity through aesthetic, philosophical depths, or revolutionary spirit.

Be ready to encounter poets with an urge to shock, depict the fantastic, the impossible, the magic, different forms of infinite freedom, desire, and reject logical reason. Join this surrealist extravaganza from Thursday, September 26 to Saturday, September 28 for lunchtime debates, thought provoking performances, and poetry “écriture automatique” writing sessions in the public space.

This year, at the invitation of the Polish Institute, Polish poet Małgorzata Lebda will join the festival.

Małgorzata Lebda grew up in a village in the Beskid Mountains, Poland. She is the author of six poetry books, including the award-winning collections “Matecznik” and “Sny uckermärkerów” (Gdynia Literary Award 2019). Her latest collection, “Mer de Glace” (published by Wydawnictwo Warstwy in 2021), received Poland’s most prestigious poetry award, the Wisława Szymborska Award, in 2022. Her books have been translated into Czech (translated by Bogdan Trojak), Italian (translated by Marina Ciccarini), Serbian (translated by Biserka Rajčić), Ukrainian (translated by Yury Zavadsky), Slovenian (translated by Katarina Šalamun-Biedrzycka), Danish (translated by Frej Larsen and Paweł Partyka), and Romanian (translated by Marina Ilie). She holds a doctorate in humanities and audiovisual arts. She is also a columnist, cultural animator, editor, researcher, and lecturer at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. An ultramarathon runner, in September 2021, she ran 1,113 kilometers along Poland’s longest river, the Vistula, as part of the activist-poetic project “Czytanie Wody” (Reading Water). Her novel “Łakome” (published by Wydawnictwo Znak in 2023) marks her prose debut. The novel has been sold to four countries: the United Kingdom, Spain, France, and Serbia, with negotiations ongoing with additional countries (Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Ukraine…). A film adaptation is in progress. The book was awarded the “Odkrycia Empiku” – the prize given by the largest chain of bookstores in Poland. She lives on a windy steep mountain ridge in Beskid Sądecki.
